Turkey’s chip manufacturing industry benefits from the collaboration of companies like TUBITAK Bilgem, Aselsan, Arcelik, and YongaTek. Among the achievements is the CAKIL processor, a prominent example of Turkey's domestic chip, successfully produced in Gebze and applied in drone projects. CAKIL supports defense applications such as fire control and flight systems, showcasing Turkey's advancements in high-tech fields.
Another key project is YONCA, which will enable Turkey to produce 16-nanometer chips for the first time, laying the foundation for future production of critical chips below 7 nanometers. This breakthrough will significantly enhance Turkey's competitiveness in the global semiconductor market.
Although the CENTIK chip is designed in Turkey, its production will be carried out by TSMC in Taiwan, China. This decision is made to leverage international leading technology to ensure product quality. The CENTIK chip will serve not only the domestic market but also expand into international fields such as robotics, automotive, and the Internet of Things. The first batch of chips has been successfully exported to a client in Dubai, marking the first recognition of Turkish chips in the international market.
In announcing this plan, President Erdoğan emphasized the importance of developing Turkey’s chip design and production capabilities. The $5 billion incentive package includes capital contributions and grants to support the establishment of an industrial-scale chip factory in Turkey, enhancing domestic production capacity.
By the end of 2025, CENTIK chips are expected to be widely used in various household appliances, with an annual production target of 25 million units. Through this plan, Turkey hopes to become a significant player in the global semiconductor industry in the near future.
These initiatives not only demonstrate Turkey's ambitions in the high-tech sector but also reflect its determination to drive economic development through technological innovation. Amidst the increasingly competitive global semiconductor landscape, Turkey's strategic positioning could bring long-term technological advantages and economic benefits.
