On July 18, Samsung Electronics officially announced the acquisition of United Kingdom company Oxford Semantic Technologies, a transaction that triggered an important strategic upgrade for Samsung in the field of AI technology.
Samsung Electronics' acquisition is intended to further advance its development in the AI space by integrating Oxford Semantic's personal knowledge graph technology.
Knowledge graph technology enables rapid search and suggestion of information by organizing data into interconnected networks. Oxford Semantic Technologies' RDFox® engine optimizes data processing and advanced inference in the cloud and on the device, and the Samsung acquisition enables a more personalized and secure user experience across multiple product segments, including mobile devices, TVs, home appliances and appliances.
Oxford Semantic Technologies was founded in 2017 by Ian Horrocks, Boris Motik, and Bernardo Cuenca Grau of the University of Oxford for the areas of mental knowledge representation and semantic reasoning. The company has been working with Samsung Electronics since 2018, including the next step in advancing technology with the support of Samsung Ventures.
